FAQ

Questions, answered plainly.

Where do QeFX exchange rates come from?

Latest rates come from ExchangeRate-API, which publishes mid-market reference rates for 160+ currencies. Historical charts use the European Central Bank’s daily reference rates, served via Frankfurter. The source and publish time are shown next to every rate.

How often are rates updated?

QeFX checks for new rates every 60 seconds. How often they change depends on the source: the open ExchangeRate-API feed currently publishes once a day, and ECB reference rates are published once per working day around 16:00 CET. The exact publish time is always displayed.

Why is my bank’s rate different?

QeFX shows mid-market reference rates: the midpoint between buying and selling prices. Banks, card networks, remittance services and exchange bureaus usually add a spread and/or fees, so the rate you’re offered will typically be less favourable.

Can I send or exchange money with QeFX?

No. QeFX is a currency information and conversion tool. It does not exchange, hold or transfer money, and it isn’t a broker or a bank.

How many currencies does QeFX support?

166 ISO currency codes, including a handful of legacy codes (such as the Croatian kuna and Bulgarian lev, both now replaced by the euro) that some providers still quote. Legacy codes are clearly labelled.

Is QeFX free?

Yes. The converter, rates, currency directory, Travel Mode and comparison tools are free to use without an account.

Who operates QeFX?
